PadMap

Turns your controller buttons into keys and shortcuts.

Link any button, trigger or pedal on your wheel, button box or gamepad to a key, text, a mouse action or a profile switch. It works in any program, even with the PadMap window closed.

Features

  • Four action types

Keyboard shortcut, text, mouse action or profile switch, for every controller input.

  • Five trigger modes

Press, Hold, Toggle, Repeat and Turbo. Hold keeps the keys down while the button is pressed.

  • Axes and pedals too

Triggers, sticks and pedals fire actions past a threshold you choose, like 40% of travel.

  • Many controllers, no mix-ups

Each controller gets a fixed number and a nickname. The input monitor shows buttons and axes live.

  • Automatic profiles

The profile switches by itself based on the program in focus, and goes back when you leave it.

  • Pause and backup

Ctrl+Alt+P pauses everything and releases any held key. Export profiles and settings to a .padmap.json.

Wheel, button box and gamepad show up with a fixed number, nickname and type. Press any button and its card lights up, even with two identical controllers connected.

Detect the input, record the shortcut and choose how it fires: Press, Hold, Toggle, Repeat or Turbo. The Test button fires the action after 3 seconds.

The input monitor shows all 128 buttons and the steering, throttle and pedal axes live. No guessing which number each button is.

The right profile in every program

The right profile in every program

A rule links a program to a profile. While it is in front, the controller uses that profile; when you leave, it goes back.

Getting started

  1. Plug in the controller. It shows up in Controllers with a number (#1, #2…).
  2. In Mapping, pick the controller and click "+ New mapping".
  3. Click "Detect" and press the button (or move the axis) you want to use.
  4. Click "Record shortcut" and press the key combo.
  5. Save. Done: that button now sends those keys. Use "Test" to check.

Ready-made profiles

Download a profile and open it in Settings › Import… choosing "Merge with current". The buttons come already mapped.

Good to know

  • Games still see the original controller. Hiding it needs a driver like HidHide, which PadMap does not install.
  • Programs running as administrator only get the keys if PadMap also runs as administrator.
  • Some games with anti-cheat ignore simulated keys.
  • Vibration only works on Xbox-compatible controllers.
